Because some people talk that way. An author has to let her characters be themselves, and this sometimes means letting them use language that she herself would avoid. A character who talks in cliches is probably someone who either lacks confidence in his own ability to express ideas or one who avoids thinking things through.
It might be done for the sake of humor.

Well a cliche is a phrase that is aid alot or is redundant so if someone were to say "Pardon the cliches" I would think they were asking you to either ignore them or to forgive them for using them in the first place. Sorry if this doesn't help you at all I'm only a freshman in high school.
