Check all the grounds. There are engine grounds that sometimes come loose. I think there is one from the engine to the firewall that comes off sometimes. Bottom line is the alternators are probably fine but without a complete circuit it just wont charge.
P.S. If the grounds are just dirty clean them and check for tightness that could explane the sometimes it works sometimes it don't thing.

The alternator relay for a 2003 Chevy Tracker is typically located in the under-hood fuse and relay box. You can find this box near the battery on the driver's side of the engine compartment. To identify the specific relay, refer to the diagram printed on the cover of the fuse box, which outlines the various relays and their functions. If you have difficulty locating it, consult the vehicle's service manual for more detailed guidance.
It could be the battery, or it could be the alternator! I had this problem with 2 vehicles I had! It will keep trying to turn over, but, if the alternator is bad, it will just keep draining the juice from your battery.Have a mechanic check how many amps the alternator is putting out. If weak it needs to be replaced. Loren J.
Yes, a 2002 Chevrolet Tracker typically has an alternator fuse. This fuse is part of the vehicle's electrical system and helps protect the alternator and related components from electrical overloads. If you're experiencing issues with the alternator, checking this fuse is a good troubleshooting step. Always refer to the owner's manual for specific fuse locations and ratings.
