A lean burn condition can be caused by a faulty EGR valve, a leaky intake manifold gasket, damaged or missing vacuum lines, low fuel pressure, poorly adjusted throttle position sensor or fouled injectors. I'm probably missing a few conditions there, but you get the idea.
It's just about impossible for anyone to tell you what's wrong without looking at it.

What model do you have? I am saying no to your question. In most vehicles the service engine light deals with the operation of the "engine", igniton system, exhaust, and fuel system. If there is a problem with the brakes you could see an ABS light (if equiped) or a BRAKE! light on. If the Service engine soon light is on in your vehicle the problem lies in one of those systems.
