the bolts are 3/8-16 . as for the length, all that is necessary is about 3/8 of an inch of bolt sticking through the pump, and gasket.
a rule of thumb is the length of bolt you need to secure something ,is equal to the diameter of the bolt. that is besides the thickness of what ever you are securing , you should have a bolt at least the diameter of the bolt longer.
example- if the pump is 1 inch thick, your bolt should be at least 1 3/8 inch long.
The torque of a water pump bolt can be requested from the manufacturer. The Chevy Trailblazer has a high torque for the water pump bolt.
That would be a long shaft water pump.
long
water pump will sit on engine with lower radiator hose inlet to the left, make sure you dont have a "long water pump", it wont work, 350 is a "short water pump"
It turns to the left.

Replace water pump for an 1986 Chevy Nova?
1987 was the cross over year for these. If you have a fuel injected engine it is in the fuel tank. If you have a carb model it is located ( from the driver seat ) on the front right side of the engine at the bottom of the engine. There is a trick to holding the push rod up on these. There is a short bolt in the front of the engine near the fuel pump that you will remove, install a longer bolt in the hole to pinch the push rod tight, change out pump. remove long bolt and install short bolt. hole must have short bolt or it will leak oil excessively. The only purpose of this hole is to aid in fuel pump change.
Remove the power steering pump. I just did a water pump. If you remove the top PS pump bolt and loosten the lower PS pump bolt about 1/2 way you can push the pump over with one hand while removing the water pump bolt.
The year would help because you can go with either the short water pump or the long water pump design.
How do you change the water pump on a 1997 chevy malibu?
Drain the radiator. Remove the pump belt. Remove the fan and shroud if needed. Unbolt the pump and remove it . Bolt on the new pump. Reinstall the fan and shroud, the belt, then refill the radiator.
