It could possibly, if it causes the computer to go into a limp home mode.
it may b the transmission sensor
The electronic sensor inside the transmission needs to be changed
A bad sensor can cause the vehicle to shift at the wrong time or not at all.
faulty speed sensor in the transmission
There could be a number of reasons why your truck will not shift properly. There could be something wrong with your clutch or transmission.
Low transmission fluid will cause your transmission to not shift properly. Check the transmission fluid and make sure it is at the appropriate level.
Your transmission might automatically shift out of overdrive while driving on the interstate because of low transmission fluid. This issue might also occur because of a bad transmission sensor or overdrive sensor.
Auto? Low or dirty transmission fluid? Plugged filter? Bad transmission pump? When my husband's car wouldn't shift (it was an automatic) it was his crankshaft sensor. It ran fine after that.
On cars with an electronically controlled transmission, the answer is yes. The transmission may not shift properly.
to my knowledge the speed sensor is just for reading the speed of the vehicle alone...bands and fluid are primary reasons for a transmission to not shift properly. if the fluid is old and worn down or there is not enough fluid in the transmission it will not shift properly and if the bands are worn from high mileage or any other reason it could mean needing a rebuild to replace them.
I think the transmission range sensor is also known as a neutral safety switch. The problems it can cause are some of your electronics on the car not working when you shift out of park. Like your windows and raidio.
