"Yes. its a maf sensor (mass air flow sensor) and it will not let it start it will mostly just crank n crank over or start for a min with spiradic idling n shut off"

Actually, there is such thing as a MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) but in some vehicles (especially Chrysler-Daimler) i believe, it can make the vehicle not start.

Can a faulty MAP sensor cause stalling?

The MAP sensor - another frequent cause of stalling or non-starting. This measures the air pressure in the manifold. You can test it - if your car won't start, just unplug the electrical connection from the MAP sensor. If it starts, replace the sensor. MAP sensor details. (It may act as though the fuel pump is not working properly - starting, then quickly dying).

Where is MAP sensor located on 1997 grand am 2.4 liter?

I have a Pont.GrandAm1997 2.4Lit. Two days ago,my car starting stalling, rough riding, sporting black exhaust fumes. The engine code cam on and gave a code PO108, MAP sensor troubles. Finding the MAP sensor was difficult, just about everything i found on the internet said on the firewall or near. I brought the car into VIP and three sales clerk could not identifly the MAP sensor on the vehicle(mechanics were too busy to look). As you know, the Grand AM 2.4 liter engine is sideways and the front of the engine faces to the left. The MAP sensor was on the side of the engine near the front of the car. Near the top. The "X" is where the MAP sensor is. It is about the size of two sticks of gum. I was under the impression the MAP sensor was large. It has a small hose attached to the bottom of the map sensor. ------------------------firewall------------------------------------------- [ ENGINE ] [ ] [ BELT ] [ X BATTERY ] [ ] ________________________________________________ headlight ---------------front of car--------------------headlight By the way,as i was getting ready to pull out the Map sensor,i noticed the hose had a small slit on it. I taped it with electrical tape...and my car regained power and the engine light never came back on!
