what kind of transmission fluid does a 96 jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 liter i-6 and an automatic transmission use (Detron III, ATF III, ATF 4,ETC,)?
Yes. ATF 4 replaces ATF 3. It is a full synthetic fluid which replaces ATF 2 and 3 in all specs. They can be mixed
"You *MUST* use type 7176 transmission fluid in all Chrysler-built automatic transmissions since the mid-70's. Dexron II and III are much more slippery than type 7176/ATF+3 and will cause shuddering during shifts. The latest version of the Mopar ATF is Mopar ATF+3 type 7176, which is what I would use. It is more heat resistant than the prior ATF+2 formula. Yes, there are aftermarket equivalents for the Mopar ATF+ auto trans fluid. The following fluids are among those known to meet Chrysler's MS7176D specs: Citgo ATF type 7176 Esso (Canada) ATF+2 Type 7176 Kendall Type 7176 ATF Quaker State 7176 ATF Pennzoil 7176ATF Texaco Texamatic Fluid CS 7176M Valvoline ATF for Chrysler Vehicles
ATF Dextron 2
== == atf+4 or atf+3 only its only $2 or $3 a qt why ruin a 1500 tranny?
well any 2 stroke oil will work to mix with the gas and in the case 5w30 or ATF is fine to run
I managed to find 2 confirmed alternative ATF: 1) Motul Multi ATF 2) Havoline Multi ATF
Pennzoil's website says that all Chrysler products use ATF+4. (ATF stands for Automatic Transmission Fluid). Earlier models may have been ATF+2 or whatever, but you just use the latest product (ATF+4). http://www.pennzoil.com/products/trans_fluids/index.html
its a mix of 2 breeds
No you cannot. You can go forwards but not backwards. You can put ATF 3 or 4 in a transmission that originally called for AFT2. But not the other way. ATF 2 doesn't contain the lubricants and conditioners of the newer ATF's and the transmissions need those additives to function properly.
You MUST use ATF+4 and nothing else. Using anything else or friction modifiers, regardless of what people say, will ruin your transmission. You can get Mopar brand or Valvoline. I believe Castrol also makes ATF+4. Your manual may say ATF+2 or ATF+3 but they are obsolete now, ATF+4 has replaced those fluids and must be used in place of them. When dropping the pan and changing the filter you will need 4 quarts.
4&1/2 sack type 1 type 2 mix is quite standard in the industry but 5 sack mix is very common also. the higher the sack mix the greater the concrete breaking strength.
