While both the Champion CJ7Y and DJ7Y spark plugs are designed for small engines, they have different heat ranges and electrode designs. The CJ7Y is a hotter plug with a projected tip, while the DJ7Y is a cooler plug with a non-projected tip. It is not recommended to interchange them as it can affect engine performance and potentially cause damage. It's best to use the spark plug recommended by the manufacturer for optimal engine function.
According to the Champion plug web site they are both bantam height. But a different bantam height. I ran into this and found that the plug looked different where the wire connected and sealed t the plug and that was the only difference.

the R stands for Resistor. It is a resistor plug.
This part number is for a Champion RDJ7Y spark plug. Set gap at 0.025" I bought a replacement plug, DJ7Y, at Home Depot on 10/6/13 for $2.38 + tax. The DJ7Y replaces the RDJ7Y. This plug is used for other tools such as my Ryobi trimmer and McCulloch chain saw.
The spark plug gap for a Bolens tiller BL410 with a 31cc Champion DJ7Y plug is typically set at 0.025 inches (0.635 mm). It's important to check the owner's manual or manufacturer's specifications for the most accurate information, as gaps can vary slightly based on the specific engine model. Always ensure the gap is properly adjusted for optimal engine performance.
The Champion dj7y, when used in a Homelite string trimmer is gapped at .025. I do not know if it is a safe bet to extrapolate from trimmer to chainsaw, but I would think so.
