Dont be stupid! If the light is on, something is wrong, go get the codes read, find out what needs to be fixed and fix it or get it fixed. DO NOT REMOVE THE LIGHT BULB. Most any auto parts store will check the codes for you for FREE!!!!!
Most auto parts store won't check the codes on this specific year Mercedes because it doesn't fall into OBD-II coding. The diagnosis code reader most parts stores carry will only read 95 and up vehicles, not to mention extra software and/or adapters are generally required to access codes on Mercedes. So, unless you want to spend the money at a qualified mechanic or dealer or track down the expensive reader for yourself, you are out of luck. Time for some old-school investigative mechanic work.

To check the gearbox oil on a Mercedes A160, first ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the engine is warm. Locate the transmission dipstick, usually found near the back of the engine bay, and remove it to wipe it clean. Reinsert the dipstick fully, then remove it again to check the oil level; it should be within the marked range. If necessary, add the appropriate transmission fluid through the dipstick tube or designated fill port, ensuring not to overfill.
You will have to remove and disassemble the cluster.
