First, make sure you battery connections are clean and tight. All good? Take it to an auto parts store where they will check it for you.
Battery light usually means alternator not charging. Most common solutions would be be a bad alternator, bad connection, or loose alternator belt. If the battery and alt test ok than check the connections to the alternator and battery.
A bad belt, a bad regulator in the alternator or bad brushes in the alternator.
There is no problem...the problem was the alternator. You have fixed the problem.
It may be a bad new alternator or it was not connected properly. Have the alternator tested to see if it is actually good.
Why do you want to unhook your battery??? If the alternator is good the car will continue to run, if it dies then you have a bad alternator this is why you would want to unhook the battery cable to check and see if you have a bad alternator
You can have the alternator tested free of charge at just about any major auto parts store. By the way, a bad alternator will not "discharge" a battery - the alternator's function is to provide the charge to the battery. If the alternator is faulty, then it is not providing the charge necessary to keep other components from discharging the battery. I had the alternator tested and it was charging. If the alternator has a bad diode, it will discharge the battery. I replaced the alternator and everything is fine.
i have checked the alternator and it is good but i am not getting juice how do i check to see if the alternater is sending power to the SBEC?
bad alternator, bad voltage regulator, bad battery, bad connections.
You may see the headlights and dash lights flicker at an idle. You may hear unusual noises coming from the alternator when the engine is running.
the alternator belt could be slipping so check the belt, the wiring at the alternator could be faulty do a check with a multimeter. open the alternator and check the diodes .apply battery power and see if the rotor still spins inside the stator see current output
A bad battery will not turn on a check engine light. A bad alternator however will. Have your vehicle checked and see if the alternator is putting out at least 13.5 volts and if so there may be another issue causing the light .
The alternator is belt driven and so is the water pump but that is where the correlation ends. There is no way a bad alternator could cause a water pump to go bad unless the alternator pulley was warped. Then there is a small chance.
