The answer is that i actually had blown a fuse in the dash fuse box. There is a fuse that has a retainer clip on it to ensure that it does not come out. It also controls the air bags and anti-lock brake system, that is why it is cover with a retaining clipto ensure that it does come out unwillingly. I replaced the fuse and was good to go.
