yes you can remove the fan clutch without removing the rad. it is tight but it can be done. it is easier with the Rad removed

The AC clutch cannot be replaced without physically removing the compressor on a 1997 Mercury Sable. The compressor and magnetic plate must be removed before you can access the clutch.
You can absolutely replace the fan clutch on your 2003 Trailblazer yourself. The clutch does not have to be reprogrammed but you do have to wait until the vehicle is completely cool before you begin work. Just remember to re-torque the fan bolts as specified in your manual.

If your hear "ticking" and have to use WD40
replace your fan clutch.
The clutch never disengages. This creates excessive labor on the engine and will destroy fuel economy.
Could be the water pump or fan clutch hitting the shroud. If you replace one then do both as the labor will kill you to do it again.
