Often on full sized pickups, there will be enough clearance below the oil pan to remove it without lifting the engine. sometimes a crossmember or other object may be too close, but would be easier to remove than lifting the engine. If one has to lift the engine and has no hoist, one can often undue the motor mounts, put a block of wood under the pan, such as a 2x6 about a foot long to spread the weight, and lift the engine with a floor jack. Carefully blocking the mounts to rest the engine back upon should give enough height to remove the pan. Reverse the order on installation.
