The symptom of a bad battery or cable is the starter is unable to get the power to start the engine. You can use a digital multimeter to check to see if it is the cables or test the battery for the definite cause.
Check engine lights can come on for a number of reasons. If you didn't get the cable right or got a sparks when connecting or disconnecting that could most definitely cause problems with the check engine light or even blow the alternator fuse.
Check the cable.
Disconnect the negative battery cable for about a minute Disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute or so
1) Check the battery cable connections. They should be clean & tight. 2) Check the connection at the starter. They should be clean & tight. A loose ground cable on the battery. Check ground cable on the starter.
I have a 2002 Millenia-S and removing and reattaching the + battery cable does reset the check engine light.Answertry unhooking the positive cable to the battery...this works on my 97 millenia

Check the lower end of the engine- follow the + battery cable
Disconnect the positive battery cable for a couple of minutes.
disconnect the positive battery cable then reconnect.
