in my pants
The reverse band adjustment is inside the transmission. The oil pan needs removed to access.
i'm not sure for that transmission, but i know for my trans, (GM 3T40) the band adjustment is the piston itself. if you look at the shaft on the piston, you might notice a couple of lines cut out on it. If so, that's the adjustment.
In old Dodges 1950s to 1980s there was one adjustable band for low reverse and if it needs adjustment its worn out. Newer cars, NO.
In an S10 transmission, losing reverse gear is often related to issues with the reverse band or the reverse servo. If the reverse band is worn or improperly adjusted, it can prevent the transmission from engaging reverse. Additionally, a malfunctioning reverse servo or low transmission fluid can also contribute to the loss of reverse functionality. Regular maintenance and inspection can help identify and resolve these issues.
There is no manual band adjustment in that transmission. It is self adjusting.
Everything points to the transmission being rebuilt or replaced. The reverse band broke, came loose etc.
Hand Tight then back off 4 turns - Done
No, not likely.
Rebuild the transmission
No. The last transmission GM made with a band adjustment was the Powerglide - gone in 1968, I think.
NO, but you should certainly check the ATF level, and possibly replace the filter. I am no expert on Fords for sure but I do know the early Chrysler 727 tranny's had an adjustable reverse band, look into that get advise from a trans shop more then one opinion as well.
