Knocking or high pitched pinging sound? If its high pitched ping then is probably a timing issue. The added load of the AC is creating enough load to bring the problem out. Try a higher grade gas in a 1/4 tank test and see if it helps. If it does then this is definitely the issue. Another thing is mark the location of the distributor in its current position. Then adjust it a quarter of an inch in one direction and see if it is better or worse? Then back the other direction from the mark a quarter inch and recheck. If it makes it better its another sign of timing being an issue. Once its determined this is it perform a good tuneup on the vehicle with proper settings.
Otherwise since it oonly happens when the AC is on and only when acclerating I would check all the belts and idler pully for any problems.
What to look and listen for; where exactly is the sound coming from. Right left side of engine? Front rear of engine? Once the sound is heard immediately turn off AC and then back on again. Does it go and then return?
Sounds are hard to trouble shoot, especially when they only happen when the car is on the road. So good luck.
Might be a cracked vacumn hose, there are plenty, and the age is about right for this to happen.
if the engine is knocking really loud you probably need to overhaul the entire engine or get a new or used engine because loud knocking is not good
you broke it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dumb bo
Mine and everyone I have hears makes a knocking sound at idle, I wouldn't worry about it unless it does it through the whole rpm or is really lowed
A loud knocking noise in the motor of a car at high speeds is most likely the engine. There could be another issue with the transmission if the knocking only happens at high speeds.
I own an 02 Highlander, and sometimes I get a knock when engine is under load, like going up a hill or when accelerating. This is engine knock caused by low octane gas. When I use a mid grade or premium octane, I do not get the sound at all. .
No
NO it will not. If you have a knocking sound then you have trouble inside of the engine.
a "knocking" noise could be your lifters. and the ticking when accelerating and letting out of the gas is the same thing. check your oil and if it's full then you may need to think about either having them adjusted, or getting new ones. depending on what you have depends on whether or not you wanna sell it
When the fuel in an engine cylinder ignites prematurely or unevenly to cause power fluctuations and a "knocking" sound. usually occurs when an engine is very how or improperly timed.
Engine knocking can be caused by numerous things. Having the incorrect spark plugs, carbon deposits on the cylinder walls, and being low on engine oil may all cause a knocking sound.
The first sign that your engine has thrown a rod is a knocking sound that comes from the engine when it runs. if you pay close attention, you will notice that the knocking sound is rhythmic and increases or decreases in accordance with the engine's revolution per minute (RPM).
