In many states if you are over a certain age (usually 16) and you are sitting in the back seat, you are not legally required to wear a seatbelt. Apart from that I don't think there is any legal reason not to wear one.

also in the state of Indiana you don't have to wear a seat belt if you drive a truck,

you can also go to your family doctor and he can write you an exempt from wearing a seat belt like i did. just tell him something is wrong with your neck and it becomes painful after you wear the seat belt to long. it will look just like a prescription and you need to carry it in your car at all times. but it works perfect and is legal.
