If the car is a flex fuel vehicle, it wont other than a decrease in mpg. My explorer gets an average highway mileage of 19.5 when i use e-85 and 25.5 on gasoline. In a non-flex fuel vehicle if you accidentally put E-85 gas in it, dont panic, one tank wont do much damage, but the car wont perform its best. Alcohol has lower energy density than gasoline, flex fuel vehicles have fuel injectors that will pump more to make up for the difference.
