That engine uses a timing chain. Chances are very slim that the chain jumped time. However if it did jump time the engine would not run and the engine would have no compression. Tell us what the symptoms are.

The first clue would be if the car doesn't turn over :)

Oh, dude, you're worried about the Mercury Sable motor mounts? Like, who even cares about that stuff? But hey, if you really wanna know, the motor mounts on a Mercury Sable are typically located on either side of the engine block to support the engine and reduce vibrations. So, like, there you go, I guess.
Go to an auto parts store and ask for an OEM filter. You will then know what it looks like.
just want you to know you are not alone. I too have a '01 sable and I'm having the exact problems. I have approx 190,000 miles on it though.
If you are referring to the electric engine radiator fan, there should a safety recall for a free replacement or repair. I had one done on my 1995 Mercury Sable. But I don't know if the recall goes back that far to 1988. Go to the Federal Government's National Highway Safety web page to see.
