First buy a Haynes manual for your car. Cost is approx. $15.00 to 18.00 at any auto parts store,or even wal-mart, target, K-mart, on-line, etc. Other than that, a cheap way will still require a list of trouble shooting explanations of "chimes". (may be on web) If your T-Bird is anything like Ford cars I've had, try the following: A) Put in your ignition key B) Turn key towards you to the "accessory" setting C) Listen to the sequence of "chimes" and write down the first and second (or even 3rd sequence) D) The number of chimes or bells or whatever sound will correspond to a trouble shooting guide. For example: You turn the key towards you and you hear 3 "chimes" followed by a short pause, then 4 "chimes". So now you have the number 34. Check the trouble shooting guide in your Haynes manual (or another type manual may be available in your library) for that number. For example that number may indicate your oxygen sensor is plugged. Good luck, I hope I was close to helping.
The '95 Contour has OBD1. You would need a reader for that older system to read the codes properly, and readers for OBD1 tend to be somewhat expensive. The best thing to do is take it to a shop that has the equipment.
You can reset the computer on a 95 Ford Taurus by connecting an OBDII reader to the vehicle. It can then reset all codes within the computer.
You have to have the codes read to know the possible causes.
Take it to auto zone and have the codes read for free.
