To change the catalytic converter on a Saturn Ion Red Line, start by safely lifting the vehicle and securing it on jack stands. Disconnect the battery, then remove any heat shields and exhaust components connected to the catalytic converter using appropriate tools. Unbolt the old catalytic converter from the exhaust system and replace it with the new one, ensuring all gaskets are properly seated. Finally, reassemble the exhaust components, reconnect the battery, and start the vehicle to check for leaks.
you don't
FIRST you find out why the OLD converter failed. If it's oil fouled, a new converter won't last long and you're just waisting money if you just replace the converter. If the converter is oil fouled, you'll need to rebuild or replace the engine first.Other than that, it's usually best to cut the exhaust line and weld in the new converter.
In the exhaust line ahead of the muffler. About middle of vehicle.
it is in line in your exhaust system, not an easy repair, need to put vehicle on lift, cut off old one, install new..
It is the Oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter.
If it doesn't now, it did when it came off the assembly line. They were required as of the 1975 model year.
The BMW 530i typically has two catalytic converters. One is located in the exhaust system close to the engine (the pre-catalytic converter), and the other is further down the exhaust system (the main catalytic converter). This setup helps to ensure effective emissions control in line with environmental regulations. Always check the specific model year and engine type, as configurations may vary.
either you have blockage in the cooling line or your catalytic converter is having a constipation problem from blockage also
i am thinking there is 4 one at the exhuast manifold, one before the converter one after and one inline. some have only 2 one after the manifold and in line.. v6 and v8 may have 2 af the exhuast collectors and 2 before the catalytic converter 2 after the catalytic converter and one inline. all depends one the engine and where it was built and if it is a cali van or not..
You don't not legally anyway. You could put in a straight through exhaust line, but if you're caught you could be severely fined.
2004-07 Saturn Ion Red Line extended warranty for 10 years or 120,000 miles whichever comes first. Normal warranty is 8 years 80,000 miles.
On the exhaust line just behind the area where the 2 manifolds become one but before the catalytic converter. Should have a shroud around it.
