Use a 15mm closed end wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt and rotate the tensioner arm away from the drive belt. Remove the old belt and release the tensioner slowly so that it will not snap back and ruin it.
There is a tension pulley located on the left side and down about half way down with a arm attached to it, you have to pull the tension arm up to release the belt. actually on the 96 model it not that simple just to change the serpentine belt you have to disconnect MOTOR MOUNT before you can remove belt i know that sound crazy but i have a 96 acheiva sc v6 that i change belt on not pretty!
Use a 3/8 drive rachet to push down on the belt tentioner it goes right in the tensioner,,While holding it down remove the serpentine belt.
There should be a diagram of the belt's routing somewhere under the hood. There is on my Aurora.
No your timing belt/chain is different from your serpentine belt. Just make sure the groves on the belt match the groves on the pullies. Other wise you will have premature belt failure.
One belt in two configurations. One for cars with AC and one for cars without.
Replace or tighten the A/C belt. If equipped with a serpentine belt, replace it.
If you're certain that the sound is from the serpentine belt you should check the belt tensioner. A weak tensioner spring will result in slipping and a noisy belt.
how ofen do you change a timing belt on 96 excel
A shop manual.
It's on the radiator shroud or brace, on the right of the fan.
chit!!
Unless your '03 is drastically different from my '96, no. The water pump is generally driven by the serpentine belt.
