I'm in the process of doing this in my '04 Elantra too...
diagrams/basic instructions can be found at: http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/default.asp --click on the "Shop" tab, enter your car model and year, go to "Body (Interior and Exterior)", then to "Console & Interior Trim", then "Audio System", and "Removal and Installation"
Basically, you remove the 4 philip's head screws holding the instrument panel in ( two above the steering wheel area, and two are hidden in the ash tray, so you have to remove it). Then you GENTLY pry the whole panel loose, because it is held in place by several clips all around. If you use a screw driver, cover it in tape so you don't damage the plastic. (BTW, it's a good idea to disconnect the battery before going any further.)
Then you have to unplug all the attached connectors so you can remove the panel entirely.
Then you unscrew the stereo mount (6 screws), pull it out, and unplug the two connectors.
At this point, you need a wire harness and mount kit to install an after market stereo. This is the part I'm at right now. From what I can tell, the ones that work on the '02 Elantra should also work on '04, but I haven't verified that for sure yet.
Installation is the reverse of removal.
Good luck!
its a 10 gallon usually
you need to pop out the frame and unscrew the radio. You will need a wiring harness for an after market stereo.
Try hmaservice dot com.
You match the yellow with the yellow the red with the red and so on...
there's no such thing as a Hyundai ''lantra'', its elantra If it's the same as Elantra try modifiedlife.com. They got free wiring diagrams for many makes and models. Sorry. There is a Lantra. It was released in Australia by Hyundai during the late 90s. There is a sedan and a sports wagon.
Try this site. I got the one for my 1998 Elantra and well as the alarm diagram. It was free and basically: click on Car Stereo Wiring Diagrams near the upper left of the page, click on Hyundai where all the makes are and then look to the right for the car you want. www.modifiedlife.com
Your car should have came with a card that has the code. Look in the manual and in and on the glove compartment for the code. If it is not there you will have to have the serial number from the stereo and call the dealer for the code.

Remove the retaining cover from your factory stereo. Remove the factory stereo retaining bolts. Slide the factory stereo out. Remove the wiring harness and the antenna cable from the back of the factory stereo.
Call Crutchfield. They have the installation kit, diagrams and instructions.
If you have the factory installed Monsoon stero, you cannot. Must must but a new stereo that has an audio jack.
take the ashtray out, and pull out the dashboard, be carefull not to brake the plastic clips. There are 5 screws in the dashboard, remove them, you may have to turn the car on and move the stick shift out of the way, use the emergency brake while doing this. It's not easy, you may need a second set of hands but I did it twice, the first time my car got broken into and thru the window they stole my off market stereo, now i take to cover off when I park in the city.
