I can't get very specific here as I don't have the remote in front of me, but there's a little notch in the casing which you use a small screwdriver to pry on and separate the casing. Then, you need to unscrew the circuit board from the casing and when you remove the board, the CR2032 battery lies underneath.
You should be advised, though, that Jaguar issued a Technical Service Bulletin about the Remote Keyless Entry System. They state that there is an issue with some 2002-2004 X-Type remotes, which, after trying to replace the battery to no avail, the circuit board inside the remote is defective and needs to be replaced.
It affects the following VIN ranges (last 6 digits):
C00001-D82662
The TSB number is: XT501-10.
If the problem persists after you replace the battery, you local Jaguar dealer should remedy the problem.

If you buy a compatible battery, at an auto store, it works just as well but you have to fill the sides so it can fit and it won't move from side to side since a jaguar battery seems to be wider than the standard types. They sell the foam at the auto store, you just have to put it on the side and cover the battery back up.i did non of dat i found it pips
