You need to remove the oil sending unit and install a oil pressure gage in it's place then start engine and read gage. Iwould tell you were the sending unit is but you did not say what you are working on. If check gauges is lit and the oil press gauge is low, you have low oil pressure or a failed oil pressure sending unit.If check gauges is lit and the oil press gauge is low, you have low oil pressure or a failed oil pressure sending unit.
Check oil pressure with a manual gauge
install an oil pressure gauge
check the sender
If the oil light is working and is off with engine running, then you have oil pressure. To determine how much pressure, you need a pressure Gage.
Never seen a check engine oil light. There is a low oil pressure light which means you have low oil pressure which could be low oil level among other things.
Fix the oil pressure problem and see what that does for you.
it is the oil pressure sensor. Check your oil level, then test your oil pressure sensor.
No
You need to find out why you have low oil pressure. Check the oil level first thing. If the oil level is ok, then check the oil pressure sending unit for a leak. You probably should just go ahead and replace it. If the oil pressure sending unit is ok, then have an oil pressure test run on the engine to see for sure if the oil pump is weak and needs replacing. Good advice
To check the oil pressure in a Toyota MR2, you can use an oil pressure gauge. First, locate the oil pressure sending unit, typically found near the oil filter. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the sending unit, then install the oil pressure gauge in its place. Start the engine and observe the gauge reading; it should fall within the manufacturer's specified range for normal oil pressure.
To give the operator of the vehicle a real time and accurate check on the oil pressure of the engine.
