I use regular carb cleaner(buy it at any hardware store). But the best way to clean a carb is to take the float bowl off, by undoing the 3 or 4 screws off the bottom, dont worry nothing will fall out, spray the bowl and clean it, take a look at the carb (float bowl off) ant you will see 2 brass jets that you can take out using a screw driver(flat) spin them out and soak them in the carb cleaner with them out spray the heck outta the rest of the carb, make sure you dont bent or strike the float if you do you will mess up your float level. take a look at your jets try to see if there pluged or not, if they are run a twist tie or other soft wire you dont want to damage the jets their soft brass. when your all done put it together..oh and when its back on the bike turn your gas on and turn the bleed screw(on the very bottom or side of the float bowl) until gas come out. it will save a lot of kicking or starter spinnin.
Clean the injectors
The engine is fuel injected so there is no carburetor on a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer
Most of the time when a small engine cranks over, starts and then dies shortly afterward the problem is in the fuel system. Normally it is caused by bad gas that has gummed up the fuel system. (normally in the carburetor) If this is the problem you will probably need to take the carburetor off and clean it out.
To clean the carburetor on a 2005 Honda Rincon 650, first ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery. Remove the carburetor from the engine by detaching the air intake and fuel lines. Disassemble the carburetor carefully, then soak the parts in a carburetor cleaner solution, using brushes to clean out jets and passages. Rinse the components, dry them thoroughly, and reassemble the carburetor before reinstalling it on the ATV.

Because your carburetor is not getting fuel to the engine - could be a plug in the fuel line or it could be dirt in the screen in the pick up tube in the carburetor. I would suggest you clean the carbutator.
