Remove the fuel pump fuse or relay while the engine is running. When pressure is depleted the engine will stall.
No, but it is safer if you do.
on the gas line
Remove the gas cap. Unless there is a Schroeder valve on the fuel rail, you will just have to remove the fuel line at the fuel filter to relieve pressure. Wrap the connection with a rag while removing it and be prepared for the spray.
Just turn open the fuel fill cap and you will hear the depressurizing sound. Ttssssssss.
It is located on the end of the fuel rail. It is held on by two small bolts. It will have a small wire harness plugged into it, and a vacuum line plugged onto the bottom of it. It is only used on returnless type fuel systems of the Contour.
Go to passenger rear door. Underneith, the fuel filter is in the fuel line. Very easy to replace. Pay strict atention to the arrow on the filter!!
on my 1999 Ford Contour the oriface tube was located under the hood on the firewall on the high pressure line, below the larger low pressure line, need to buy disconnect tool fuel/ac line tools, remove and then along the line is a connection with two nuts 22mm and 19mm unscrew and remove hose
the fuel filter is on the passenger side underneath the car. There will be two lines on will have a label on it saying fuel line. it will be next to the front tire <<<<<<Make sure you depressurize the line first>>>>>>>
According to the factory service manual you should pull the fuse for the fuel pump then run the engine until it uses up the available fuel.

Either that or put a rag around the fitting you are loostening to keep from spraying fuel all over the place.
It's inside the fuel tank. You can get at it by removing the rear seat. You'll need to relieve the fuel pressure in the line to the engine before you disconnect it. Unless you're pretty experienced, you'll want to leave this to the pros.
