If the smell comes from engine area the best thing to do is to wash it whit a high pressure hose water and some detergent or de-greaser to eliminate any old grease accumulated on engine or surroundings, if smell comes from trunk or cabin the best thing to do is to remove carpets and wash them as deep as possible and let them dry completely, never leave a wet carpet in your interiors car, same process for seats.
Mostly bad odors comes from old accidents never cleaned at the time it happens, like a cigarette smoke or a liquid spoiled or a can of oil forgotten in the trunk of car, there are too many possibilities and one solution Wash!!.
