Normally a bad brake caliper will stick when you apply the pedal and then slowly release. It will make your vehicle feel as if the brakes are applied even when they are not and then slowly they will release. Eventually they will stick and stay stuck.

It is worth mentioning that squelling or scratching noises are not neccesarily a bad caliper. Those noises are usually caused by the brake pads themselves either sliding on the caliper or the scratching sound is probably the brake wear indicators letting you know you need new brake pads.

How do you know when the calipers need to be changed?

They Seldom Go Bad. Inspect For Leakage And Sticking. If Yours Stuck Replace It, And The Brake Hose Also. One Reason We Have Trouble With Calipers Is Not The Caliper But The Brake Hose. The Hose Will Rot On The Inside Not Allowing The Brake Fluid To Flow Back Into The Master Cylinder There For Causing Calipers To Stick. If Yours Isn`t Leaking It Should Be OK. Be Sure To Inspect The Brake Hoses, If They Appear Bad Replace Them. GOOD LUCK

Why don't rear calipers release on 93 probe gt?

The Calipers May Be Bad; Also The Brake Hoses Could Be Bad. On The Inside This Will Restrict The Flow Of Brake Fluid Back Into The Master Cylinder Causing The Caliper To Stay On. If You Replace The Calipers, Replace The Hoses Also.
