IDLE LEARN PROCEDURE Whenever the battery cables, the engine control module
(ECM), or the ECM fuse is disconnected or replaced, the
following idle learn procedure must be performed:
1. Turn the ignition ON for 5 seconds.
2. Turn the ignition OFF for 5 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition ON for 5 seconds.
4. Start the engine in park/neutral.
5. Allow the engine to run until the engine coolant is
above 185° F (85°C ).
6. Turn the A/C ON for 10 seconds, if equipped.
7. Turn the A/C OFF for 10 seconds, if equipped.
8. If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transaxle,
apply the parking brake. While pressing the
brake pedal, place the transaxle in D (drive).
9. Turn the A/C ON for 10 seconds, if equipped.
10. Turn the A/C OFF for 10 seconds, if equipped.
11. Turn the ignition OFF. The idle learn procedure is
complete
Disconnect battery once again then touch both battery cables together for about a minute. Reconnect battery and allow time for the comp to relearn environment
No. Just reconnect the battery and let the car idle for 5-10 minutes and then start driving the car. The car will relearn your driving habits after a week or two. . . .
The Explorer will need to relearn its idle etc ( drive cycle ) and the clock and radio stations will have to be reset
You may have to clean throttle body if battery was disconnected for a while so pcm can relearn proper idle speed.
If you had the battery disconnected then the computer has to relearn the optimum efficiency for everything that's going on. If you didn't disconnect the battery, then you should do that for about 30 minutes and clear the computer out so it can relearn with the new MAF sensor connected.
There is nothing to reset. You already reset the PCM back to factory settings when you disconnected the battery to replace it. Now you must drive the vehicle normally so it will relearn your driving habits, conditions you drive under, climate, etc.
As soon as you take a battery cable off it will disrupt the computer program ( I understand that there is a item with a 9 volt battery in it that can be plugged into the cigarette lighter socket that maintains the programming ) You will not disrupt the programming, what happens is that learned items, such as engine idle characteristics radiao presets, and transmission shift patterns will be lost and will relearn on start up.
To reset the ECU on a Mitsubishi Lancer, disconnect the negative battery terminal and leave it disconnected for about 10-15 minutes. This allows the ECU to clear its memory and reset. Afterward, reconnect the battery terminal, and start the vehicle to allow the ECU to relearn its parameters. It's advisable to drive the car for a short distance to help the ECU recalibrate settings.
To reset the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) on a 1999 Saturn, disconnect the negative battery cable and leave it disconnected for about 15 minutes. This allows the PCM to clear any stored trouble codes and resets its adaptive memory. After that, reconnect the battery cable, and your PCM will be reset. It's also a good idea to drive the vehicle for a while to allow the PCM to relearn its parameters.
The relearn process for battery replacement on a Mitsubishi 3000GT involves resetting the vehicle's ECU to adapt to the new battery. After disconnecting the old battery, you should allow the car to sit for at least 10 minutes before connecting the new battery. Once connected, start the engine and let it idle for about 10 minutes to allow the ECU to recalibrate. Additionally, you may need to reset the clock and radio settings, as these may also be affected by the battery change.
Usually you are not supposed to reprogram anything. Just connect the battery and drive the car, it will take about 100-250 miles for ECU to relearn sensors.
I would assume this is a Stratus, and that the battery had been disconnected during water pump replacement. 1. Disconnect the battery again for 30 seconds. 2. Reconnect battery. 3. Turn key to "run" position, (not start), for 5 seconds. 4. Start car. 5.. Idle relearn should be complete.
