To remove the knob you must hit up on one side of it and it will pop off with a couple off hit. You have to hit it with some force and does not damage it either.

The shifter knob has a horseshoe shaped clip that can be pryed out with a small flathead screw driver. Once removed, the knob will pull off.

there should be a u shaped clip in the front of the knob, almost like a staple. pry that out with a screwdriver and the knob should pull off.
