There is a special tool that is required to take off the flter. You can purchase the tool at your local auto parts store. There is a metal one or you can buy a set of plastic ones that are supposed to work better. It is very difficult to change it. I tried for almost an hour and decided to call my mechabic who only charged me $15 to do it and the metal tool cost me almost $7.
