I've got a short in the rear speakers(or my son blew them out) and need to replace them. I have a 2001 Maxima but I was able to access the speakers by opening the rear door fully and take a flat head screwdriver to pry off the door panel. I started at the rear of the door panel near the center. I slid a small flat head in between the metal door and plastic panel where the direction of the screwdriver was going toward the front of the car. There are plastic screws that hold the door panel to the metal frame. GENTLY pry those away just so the screw pops out. There are several so if you pry the panel before popping the screw out you could crack the panel or ruin the plastic screws. I then laid on my back and worked on the speaker from the bottom, good luck.

If its a convertable, remove the the screws under the rear seat and remove. Then remove the screws holding the leather enclosures and remove from sill plate. remove the speaker boxes and replace.
