disconnect the large rubber hoses, fuel lines, and accessible wires from the fuel tank, pull out the gas tank (not fun), disconnect all the remaining wires and fuel lines from the top of the pump (which is accessible from the top of the fuel tank), remove the circular metal piece that holds the pump in place (a hammer and screwdriver work well for this), and then pull out the fuel pump.
To install the new one, just do everything in reverse
