To fix the back defroster in a VW Cabrio, first check the fuse related to the defroster circuit, as a blown fuse can prevent it from functioning. If the fuse is intact, inspect the wiring and connections at the rear window for damage or corrosion. Additionally, ensure the defroster switch is working properly. If these steps don't resolve the issue, the rear window heating element may be faulty and might require replacement.

Remove the console panel surrounding the switch by unscrewing any screws and carefully prying it off. Disconnect the wiring harness from the old switch, then install the new switch by connecting the harness and securing it back in place. Finally, reattach the console panel and reconnect the battery to test the new switch.

In a 2000 Hyundai Elantra, the rear defroster relay switch is typically located in the engine compartment fuse box. You can find the fuse box near the driver's side of the engine compartment, usually near the battery. To confirm the exact position of the rear defroster relay, refer to the fuse box diagram printed on the cover or in the owner's manual.
replace the switch... there is a spring steel L shaped clip that goes around a V shaped slide and that plastic slide breaks on them... i have the same problem and looking for a used switch cause the ford dealers want $112.00(can) for a new one. I suggest buying any toggle/push-button switch and rewire it (as the ford switch will break again). A new switch from Radio Shack (or equivalent) is easy to install and will only cost you just $5.
