Make sure you have the Optima on a level surface with plenty of work room, and get your tools together beforehand. Jack, jackstands, metric sockets and a flathead screwdriver are just about all you need. 1. Disconnect the batt cable on the negative side of batt.

2. remove the speed meter and shift cable (only two wired connections to starter housing).

3. Verify all leads and power have been disconnected, then remove 2 bolts connecting starter to housing. Watch your head. Pull the starter straight away from the housing.

4. To install, do the reverse. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT..MAKE SURE THE VERY FIRST THING YOU DO IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST STARTER IS DISCONNECT THE POWER (OPEN THE CIRCUIT) FROM THE BATTERY. If you accidentally jump the starter with a screwdriver or wrench you'll get a light show and bang your head.
