Step 1) Remove engine, trans, rear, body, and door hinges. No, seriously. I don't know what you have ( van or p/u platform), but the engines are all the same. The pump is on the driver's side lower front area of the block, driven from the fanbelt. In the van, you have to lift the engine off the driver's side motor mount slightly ( about 2 inches). I'm not sure about the pickup, but the van takes about 12 hours to do. It actually takes 30 minutes to swap the vac pump, but the rest of the time is getting to it.
To change out a water pump in a Series 60 Detroit diesel, you need to locate the water pump in the engine. You need the right tools to remove all the fittings and take the pump out, them replace it with a new one. The owners manual has a list of all engine parts and diagrams.
For common rail diesel engines you can use a solvent that recommended by manufacturer and directly connect it to the high pressure diesel pump and run the engine for 45 -60 minutes
I would gees $ 60- $150
Assuming it's a gas, not a diesel....these are the really easy things to do: First check the ignition system, making sure the plugs and wires are good, cap, too. Second, listen for any vacuum leaks. Third, change the fuel filter. If it's a diesel, you may have some serious fuel pump issues.
There's slight but significant enough changes between the 11.1, 12.7, and 14.0 motors, as well as pre- and post-EGR models, that this information would be pertinent to know before an answer is given.
I have a "94" apv. The fuel pump is in the fuel tank and is one of the simpler ones to replace, and reasonably cheep at $60.
A bad or leaking air valve at the governor, a poor fuel pump or restricted fuel lines up to it.
60 x 7.1
it depends on your engine the pumps them selfs are about $40-$60 but if you have a z24 or other where the pump is run off the timing chain it could be anywhere from $650- $750
The pump itself will cost you from $50 to $60. If you pay someone else to do it expect a labor bill of $150 t0 $225.

I believe it calls for approximately 1.25. It takes about 2-2.5 hours.
