The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank so, siphon as much fuel out of the fuel tank as possible by removing the filler neck hose/assembly and slipping a siphon hose down into the fuel tank. This will make the removal of the tank much easier without the weight of excess fuel. Be sure to cap the filler neck opening with something to keep dirt out. Once the tank is out and on the floor, blow off any dirt around the fuel gauge/pump assembly. It is important not to allow any dirt to get inside the tank. Remove the lock ring the holds the gauge/pump assembly into the tank opening. Remove the gauge/pump assembly. If memory serves me right, the pump in that year S10 can be replaced separately from the gauge unit. If not then the complete gauge/pump assembly must be replaced. Reverse order for installation.
