List of tools req: #2 Philips Small slotted screwdriver 6mm Allen socket with 8 in extension and wrench Radio/panel extraction tool set(for stereo and air control panel)you can purchase a kit for $35 on eBay. 8mm gear wrench Slip joint or needle nose pliers Coat hanger This assumes that you have some mechanical aptitude and have worked on your car before somewhat. Also this is for an automatic shifter. Manual is similar, but not sure for last few steps. Pretty much all connectors and switches disconnect by just pulling them out, however some do have clips, so be mindful of this when removing them. A small pick comes in handy. 1 Start by removing the ashtray(just the insert at this time) and anything in the armrest/cup holder etc. 2 remove the trim ring around the shift lever gate plate with small screwdriver or pick 3 remove the two screws in the bottom of the armrest(might be underneath a cover mat) 4 use the stereo removal tools to remove the stereo 5 use the same tools to remove the air control panel 6 remove the sunglasses holder in the console below the radio(just pulls out) 7 Remove the two side screws(8mm gear wrench) behind where the air cond panel was(may have to remove yellow filler for access) 8 remove the screws along the lower plastic panels below the dash assy(you'll see that the carpeting runs up along them) 9 remove the two duct covers on the side kick panels(quarter turn Philips) 10 use hook shaped tools to lift up shift console surround(with all the switches on it) 11 unplug connects for switches or remove the switches completely with connectors(label if unsure where removed from) 12 remove the ashtray assy(two small screw at the front) 13 remove the 4 Allen bolt that secure the shifter to the body(these have Loctite on them so be carefully not to strip them) 14 Carefully start by lifting the rear of the console upward about 6-8 inches. Then push down slightly on the front section and you'll see the tabs at the top that need to clear as you move the console rearward. At this point the whole assy should be able to be removed completely. 15 lift up the shift assy and you will see the lever assy with a clip on it. Fish the coat hanger under to avoid letting it fall when you remove the clip. 16 use the pliers and small screwdriver to remove the clip. 17 now's the perfect time to clean under here 18 install clip and make sure it's locked on good Start reinstallation in reverse order being mindful of the carpet positioning as you install the console. Manual recommends using computer to clear any codes. Use this info at your own discretion.
