One of the simplest jobs you can do if you have a little mechanical aptitude and the correct size wrenches. Set the parking brake and chock block the wheels and you're good to go underneath and do the work, no jacks or stands required. You could drive the rear up onto blocks as well if you feel that you need more space to work.
Just buy the shocks you want, check that they have all the hardware required (nuts, bolts, and washers), but do not unstrap the shocks yet. Get under the vehicle, and remove the bolts from one of the old shocks (replace only one shock at a time, that way, you can look at the other for reference if necessary). If the bolts are seized, just use a nut splitter on them (less than $10 at most any parts store and a priceless tool to have in your tool box), you won't be reusing any of the old shock hardware. Now you can remove the old shock and put in a new one. If the retaining straps don't run through the 'eyes' of the shock, bolt in one end of the new one (top is usually easiest), making sure it is correctly oriented with the 'fat' end of the shock at the top, before unstrapping the shock and guiding it into place and slipping in the bottom bolt. Otherwise, unstrap the shock, install the top end, and use your strength as described below to install the other end.*Be prepared for the shock to start extending when the strap is removed, it won't shoot out like a rocket but it might not give you too much time to aim it and slip in the bottom bolt* If you miss, don't worry, just use a little strength to compress the shock and try again. Tighten the bolts as directed by any instructions from the new shocks. Repeat the process for the other shock and you're back to riding in comfort.
Unbolt the old ones and put the new one in.
The Dodge Intrepid does not have rear struts. This automobile has rear shocks and springs. The shocks can be removed by removing the retaining bolts on the top and bottom of the shock. Reverse the process to install the new shocks.
How do you replace rear shocks on a 2003 altima?
Those have shocks on them. I replced the rear ones on my '97 a while back. Those were pretty easy. I haven't tried the front ones yet.
how to replace rear shocks on a 1994 acura legend coupe
Struts front, shocks rear.
No
Struts in the front, shocks in the rear.
THERE IS NO PARKING LIGHT LENSE FOR THE REAR. IT'S ONLY THE TAIL LAMP ASSEMBLY!
If you replace the manual leveling shocks on the rear with regular shocks you also have to replace the rear coil springs with stiffer ones. Use gm part #15182559 or bilstein part #199021 to replace the coil springs. The coil springs that come with the manual leveling shocks are not stiff enough to use with regular shocks, causing the rear end to droop.
Struts in the front and rear.
The rear shocks on a Pontiac G6 are replaced by supporting the rear axle on jack stands, removing the wheels, and unbolting the shocks. New shocks can then be put in place and bolted on.
