open the lift-gate and take off the tail lamp

If you can't get to the back of the light through the trunk, you have to remove the light to change the bulb from the rear.

Open up the tail gate, remove the two small Philips head screws on the side of the tail gate opening, wiggle out the complete tail light assembly, unlock and twist the socket out that holds the problem bulb, replace the bulb and install in reverse order.

Open the entire back hatch, and unscrew casing, and replace bulb. Now redo what you've undone.
