To change the slave cyclinder on a Scenic RX4 requires the complete removal of the gearbox. Because of the size of the gear box and the tight fit in the chassis, the entire front subframe needs to be removed. The engine needs to be supported, the front hubs and drive shafts (Including the prop driving the rear wheels) must be removed, then the front bumper and plastic wing flares need taking off to gain access to the front subframe bolts. If you do change the slave cylinder you should replace the entire clutch at the same time. Its not a complicated job if you are methodical but there is no quick method of completing this work. The gearbox is very heavy so its really a 2 man job, but the position of the engine and the positioning dowels for the gearbox mean that it can be lifted straight up unlike some cars where you have to pass the box in at an angle before pushing in to place. No need to disconnect the exhaust or manifold, and the one pleasant thing is that its a standard flywheel rather than a dual mass so no need to change this with the clutch, unless the starter ring gear is damaged or the face of the flywheel has been damaged by the clutch plate.
