Disconnect the old ones and replace them with new ones. Start at the battery and trace the wires to their terminal point. There'll be one going from the alternator to the battery positive, one going from the battery positive to the power distribution center, and one going from battery negative to ground (either chassis or frame). They're held in with simple fasteners. There might also being one going from the engine block to the ground (usually, to the frame). If there isn't, it's not a bad idea to add one.
Disconnect both battery cables. Follow the positive cable on the 2000 Grand Am to the other end, looking at how it was routed. Remove the wire connection, and pull the wire out. Instill the new wire through the same routing, then reconnect the cables.
Loose or corroded battery cables? Seized engine? Bad starter solenoid? Bad starter? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch?
Disconnect the battery, remove the boot cover and spark plug cables, and pull out the old spark plugs. Put in the new spark plugs, replace the boot cover, and spark plug cables, and reconnect the battery.
Lift the hood, disconnect the battery, remove the spark plug cables and covers, and remove the old spark plugs. Next put in the new spark plugs, replace the cables and covers, reconnect the battery and close the hood.
The starter or battery cables/terminals are corrode.
Remove the positive battery cable from your 2000 Saturn battery. Remove the cables from the front of the starter. Remove the three starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.
