Lift the truck in the air using a jack then secure the vehicle with jack stands then take the tires off with a socket and ratchet next take the cotter pin out of the castle nut on the bottom side of the ball joint after that is take the castle nut off remove the 3 bolts on top knock the old ball joint out and reverse process for instillation make sure you torque the wheels to the right specs

u can't just change the upper ball joint, u have to change the whole upper control arm. It is welded to the arm in one piece.
Remove fan shroud Drain radiator Remove upper and lower radiator hoses Remove upper mounting bolts Lift radiator out of lower support cradle

You have to change the upper control arm.
if it is original the upper ball joint is riveted in, it will need to be chisel out,there are four rivets and then the nut that holds it to the control arm.new ball joint will come with bolts and nuts
If its 2 wheel drive, you will need a press. Those ball joints are pressed into the upper and lower control arms. If it is 4 Wheel drive you need to remove the rivets with either an air chisel or to drill them out.
Should be in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose
Just learned this the hard way today after trying to do it myself. The ball joint will not come out until you remove the brake caliper and rotor. Too time consuming for a do it yourselfer in my opinion...I had the shop down the street replace the ball joint for 1.1 hours labor (about $80).
