- Disconnect the negative battery cable for about 5 minutes.
- Remove the ECM fuse(or fuses) for about the same amount of time.
- The best way is to take your vehicle to a repair shop, dealer or some auto parts (Auto Zone for one) and have them plug in their scan tool, pull any codes, then clear them. If you don't repair the cause of the codes, the light will come back on after a while.
It is common for the check engine light to come on as result of gas cap not tightened after fill up. Check to see that it is tight, and drive for a while. The computer should reset after next fill up.
