Run your spark plug wire from the #1 plug to the #1 lug on the distributor cap. Then follow the rest of the firing order going clockwise around the cap.
This is the firing order of your engine. You need to get a repair manual or otherwise find out your firing order and which way (clockwise/counter-clockwise) to route them on the distributor. The number 1 plug will be marked with a dot, a "1", or some other identification. You'll be able to tell right away if the order is wrong.
on 68-74 340 engines, the #1 firing order starts at drivers side, front of engine is #1 spark plug. Rotor in distributor cap, must point in that direction and piston in that cylinder should be at top of stroke. Align distributor cap wiring #1 where rotor is pointing to. Then follow firing order clockwise at top of cap. Rear of engine 8-7 6-5 4-3 2-1 Front of engine
You have most likely changed the order at which the plugs are hooked up to the distributor, how car care friendly is ya? If you are very you'll understand what I mean right off. If not the firing order of your truck is something like 2513867 or smothering weird yet the firing order of your distributor is 12345678... See where I'm getting at you need you distributor to fire 1 to cyl 1 and next not cyl 2 but what ever is in the firing order. The firing order should be stamped on your intake or on the block somewhere. Also some crap shack like orilies can tell you what it is... That help? I own an 1996 V6 GX Toyota Camry I have recently changed the spark plugs but I think I have got the spark plug leads in the wrong order on the distributor cap. Starting at 1200 and going clockwise, can anyone tell me the correct firing order? Thank you
You losen the bolt were the distributor goes into the engine and twist the distributor little by little until its firing good, you have rev it up to tell.

You don't decide the manufacture of the engine decides the firing order. If you had listed the make, model, year, and engine size I could tell you the firing order.
