Make sure the wheel is securely locked before driving.

The wheel tilt, or tilt steering mechanism, on a 1997 Mercury Villager is located on the steering column. To adjust it, look for a lever or a knob typically found under the steering wheel. i have a 1993 ford f 150 truck , it has the same problem, i removed the steering wheel and found a bad bearing. i just need a schematic drawing to see how to replace, and to see the order in which to remove.
You can't. Tilt wheel was never an option on Ford Escort. The preceeding statement is FALSE. I own a 88 ford escort gt and it has a tilt steering wheel. Indeed, it's causing problems for me. The tile wheel is moving freely and the steering column cover is loose. Car loses all electrical power and dies when the wheel is moving of it's own accord. Seems like it's choking off some wires or something because I can pull the wheel towards me and power returns. I'd like anyone that knows what's happenig here to help me out and share info with me. Please!
