12 Valve cummins have a mechanical fuel pump & can be turned up to dump more fuel into the motor. 24 valve cummins are computer controlled & can get a substantial increase of power through a computer chip, module, or tuner. Both engines will also see a significant increase with bigger fuel injectors, aftermarket turbo(s), larger exhaust, larger fuel pumps, aftermarket intercooler, propane injection, water methanol injection, and nitrous injection. Its not so much turning up the power as it is turning up the amount of released fuel. you can also turn down the idle in the same area as the mechanism for the fuel. to the right of the first cylinder ( the one closest to the grill ) there is a cylindrical cast metal object simply remove the cover and there you have the idle adjustment, tight for low idle=less fuel idling or loosen for more fuel and faster idle. below the capped cast object there is a threaded rod with a nut on it, again loosen for more fuel=more smoke, cooler motor, and torque increase or tighten for less fuel=less smoke, less power, and more heat

How do you turn up horsepower in a 12 valve cummins?

To increase horsepower in a 12-valve Cummins, you can start by upgrading the fuel delivery system with a higher-flow fuel pump and larger injectors. Additionally, modifying the turbocharger for better airflow and installing an aftermarket intercooler can enhance performance. Tuning the engine with a performance chip or ECU reprogramming will optimize fuel maps and boost levels, further increasing power. Always ensure that supporting modifications, like exhaust upgrades, are also considered to prevent excessive back pressure.
