sonicelectronix.com has a lot of things that could help you with adding an amplifier to your stock system. If you didn't want to spend any extra money then you can split the speaker wires for your rear speakers and have them go to the speakers and the high level inputs(if available).
Yes they are interchangeable.
No, Chevy changed the wiring harness in 2003. and the way it is mounted, it can be made to work though.
If you plan on keeping the original stereo in the car, and simply want to upgrade, you would need an amplifier with a High Level Input. That allows you to splice the signal from the speaker wires (since factory decks dont have RCA outputs). But you can also buy a high level input converter from a car audio shop for cheap, and that will allow any amp to hook up to it. If you plan on amping the factory speakers though, you might want to reconsider. Unless you have a factory upgraded stereo, your speakers are generally made out of paper. I hope that was helpful!
With an adapter Yes.
No it will not without some modification. Your stock opening is 1.5 din. So you will need to do some cuting to your stock bezel, and modify your mounting bracket.
There Is none.
