There might be a switch attached to the brake pedal. When depressing the brake, at a certain point in the travel of that pedal, it trips a switch, which turns on the brake lights. Have someone check to see if the high mount brake light is or is not coming on, too. Chances are it is that brake light switch.
There is no brake light sensor. There is however a brake light switch. It may be mechanical, which would be located somewhere on the brake pedal lever. It can be bad or just out of adjustment. It can also be a pressure switch located on the master cylinder.
Brake light switch needs adjusting or replacing. It is too sensitive.
To replace the brake light switch on a 2002 Jaguar XJ8, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure safety. Locate the brake light switch, which is typically mounted near the top of the brake pedal assembly. Remove the electrical connector from the switch, then unfasten and remove the old switch. Install the new switch by reversing the steps: secure it in place, reconnect the electrical connector, and finally reconnect the battery terminal.
